Oakhurst Center to offer high school enrichment

Submitted by F&C Publisher on March 27, 2009 – 10:04 amNo Comment

studentsA new program for Yosemite High School students will start this fall semester at the Oakhurst Center. This special enrollment program for seniors will enable them to earn dual credit in both high school and college. The North Centers College Advantage Program (NCCAP) requires a 2.5 to 3.5 grade point average (GPA) and completion of at least 210 high school credits.

“Our goal is to create a college-going culture and expose high school students to college level classes.”- Vikki Piper

“Our goal is to create a college-going culture and expose high school students to college level classes,” said Vikki Piper, coordinator at the Oakhurst Center. “We have an excellent relationship with Yosemite High School and want to provide this opportunity to benefit students in eastern Madera County,” she said.

The program is modeled after the successful program at the Madera Center, which serves high school students at Madera North, Madera South, and Liberty High Schools. Students will have several options to choose from for class times. A morning, afternoon, and after school period will be offered with speech, English, history, and math classes.
